Text-Link-Ads sell text links in the traditional sense of just simple looking text links that can easily fit into any site design rather than banners and leaderboards, and so can offer publishers an additional revenue stream.

Submitting a site to Text-Link-Ads is a simple process and similar to the more traditional advertising networks where you pick your site's content genre, add a short description of the site and state where the text links will be placed (header/sidebar/footer/etc), and how many text link ads you would like to display per page. What makes Text-Link-Ads different to traditional ad networks is the text links are only displayed on one page of the website (normally the homepage), rather than across the whole site.

The publisher interface is very intuitive, and publishers get the option to either review each text link sold before it goes live on their site, or just to be notified that the ad has gone live. I prefer the former, so I can personally make sure that the links are relevant to the site in question. Once your site is accepted, you can choose the price per month of your text links although they do set guide prices, and each link sold along with total earnings are clearly displayed so that you can set your prices according to demand. You can add the PHP/ASP ad code manually to your site or use one of the large number of content management system specific plugins such as are available for WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, ModX and PHPBB3.

However, there are some controversies surrounding selling text links on websites. Search engines such as Google have threatened to penalise sites which do so in their search engine ranking algorithms, as selling links that effect search engine results is against their quality guidelines unless a "nofollow" is added to each link, which is not offered by Text-Link-Ads and so publishers may be taking a risk by using the service.
